Tibet's Lukhang temple, a private retreat for the Dalai Lama established in the late seventeenth century, contains what was, until the Chinese invaded, a secret meditation chamber covered with a set of extraordinary murals. These murals present a host of figures engaged in the basic cycles of life or practicing Tantric meditation techniques in pursuit of inner transformation. Instead of rejecting desire as other Buddhist practices do, Tantra harnesses this intrinsically human drive and turns it into "boundless compassion." So powerful and potentially dangerous is this path to spiritual awakening, only the most enlightened of Tibetan Buddhist monks are initiated into the tradition. Tibet expert Baker's decoding of the murals' images and history of the Tantric tradition are cogent and deeply moving. In his introduction, the Dalai Lama, who was unable to visit Lukhang before being forced into exile, writes that many believe that the very sight of these paintings opens the viewer's mind to spiritual truths, and, indeed, their effect is powerful. Gorgeous book

A really beautiful book: pictures are magnificents, thanks to the anonymous ancient painter and to the modern photographer, with many pictures of the details of the paintings. But the book is worthy not only to see. The first chapter tells a short but interesting history of the temple and of the Dalai Lamas, and at the beginning of each of the three main sections (as there are three walls painted in the temple, corresponding to the three pillars of Dzogchen teaching: base, path and fruit) a short but careful explanation of the principles of Dzogchen, in connection with the painted teachings of the secret temple. I do loved this book, and reccomend it to anyone interested in Dzogchen and Tibetan culture and Buddhism.

The only criticism I have of this book is the title: calling it "the secret temple" is a marketing ploy, as this temple is a major tourist attraction in china (formerly in part of tibet). But, the essays are enlightening on tibetan buddhist art. I'm not sure that the comparisons to Bosch and Breughal hold up to anyone who knows anything about european art, but that aside, it gives a fascinating overview of the history of the dali lamas and their relaitonship to art. i'd recommend this to anyone interested in art, buddhism or tibet. also, excellent page stock, photographs and binding.

Against Liminality

This is a strange and challenging book. Don't look to necessarily agree with Horvath, who is quite extreme in her conservatism. Many developments in the complication of how we think--which she discusses under the heading of a liminality that has crept into our lives--that I welcome, she interprets as essentially destructive of civilization. But expect to be provoked to think again about conclusions you've already come to. On balance, that's very high praise for any book.

Master Mind by Theron Dumont is a phenomenal work that explains that life is about filling/playing one of two roles, master or slave. A master is one who creates his circumstances. Everyone has at one point or another been a subject of circumstance. However, a slave is one who is the continual victim of circumstances or continually being subjected to external impressions. Master Mind explains how the being of man is represented by a chariot and his Real Self represents the rein, the will: the steeds, the mental states of feeling, emotion, desire, imagination, and the rest. Unless the reigns be strong, they will not be sufficient to control the horses. Unless the charioteer be trained and vigilant, the horses will run away with the chariot and dash to pieces the driver in the general wreck. But controlled and mastered, the fiery steeds will lead forward to attainment and accomplishment, and at the same time will travel the road in safety. Master Mind reiterates and teaches the importance of mastering ones feelings, emotions, desires, thoughts, and most importantly the will. The future under a New World Order.

I approach this book as an outsider to this genre. I'm not big conspiracy theory buff. I'm not a survivalist. Nor am I a die-hard political fanatic. Like most Americans, I go about my life vaguely aware of what's happening in our government. Given that, I went into this book with an open mind.
Jim Keith, who I find after some research, was one of the leading writers in government activities. With Black Helicopters Over America he raises some interesting questions. What is our military doing? What exactly does the government have in mind for our future? What part does our government play in the political machinations of the United Nations?
Keith lays out the plans for a New World Order. He describes an international police force under U.N. direction. He shows the groundwork for the disarmament of the people and the rights that we could lose in the new world state. Keith also describes a future of concentration camps for those that would speak out against the New World Order.
Black Helicopters is a straightforward book laden with factual events and policies. However, though the events and policies may be factual, the context and details of those entries can sometimes seem questionable. As with most any issue, facts can be arranged to display the picture the writer wants to be seen.
The material in the book is a bit dated. Even though it was published in 1994, events in the book date back as far as the 1950s. Most of the events presented are from the 1970s. This in itself softens the credibility of the text. While writing this review, I did find out that Keith published a follow up book in 1998 titled Black Helicopters II : The End Game Strategy. I would imagine that the follow up takes the reader current, up to 1998. It may be worth the time for interested parties to read this book to see if Keith presents more recent events that would add credibility to his arguments.
If anything, Keith does present enough information to make the reader think. In fact, Keith urges the reader to step back and take at look at the information that is available. In my opinion, the underlying point of Black Helicopters is: To make educated decisions based on researched facts and to understand your government and what it is doing. It is something to think about.

Researcher Jim Keith died at Washoe Medical Hospital on September 7, 1999, during surgery to repair a broken knee he suffered after falling off the stage at the Burning Man Festival in Black Rock, Nevada. Doctors stated that a blood clot was released during the surgery and travelled to the heart, causing a pulmonary edema.

The author of many challenging books - including The Octopus, Mind Control, World Control, Black Helicopters over America, OKbomb!, Saucers of the Illuminati, Casebook on Alternative 3, Secret and Suppressed, and Casebook on the Men In Black - Keith was extremely worried before he was admitted to hospital, and had confided to a friend that he was afraid he would never be released alive.

His mysterious dead could be maybe a proof about the brisance of the book.

To those of you unfamiliar with Jim Keith's books, you will appreciate Keith's incredible facility to see beyond the fact-ridden, and extrapolate hidden agendas within government enterprises, as in this book, you will note that he opens with review of jounralist Ed Sander's insights into the meaning of CATTLE MUTILATIONS within the context of first appearing very close to military base in Colorado, and why Keith dared to mention on his guest appearance on ART BELL talk-show the relevance of many cattle mutilations having been diagnosed with CLOSTRIDIA, and what that microbe means for BIOLOGICALS productions, as noted by famed journalist, RN Joyce Riley of American Gulf War Veteran's Association... and why this news is being suppressed, and why JIM KEITH's books have so much merit in understanding GLOBALISM and all sorts of "hidden agendas". Read ALL of Jim Keith's books, before you think this is all madness and sheer nonsense! JIM KEITH has lots more to say about the "New Order" and the devious machinations ensuing from very greedy people. Keith has tried to expose the nefarious nature of many psy-ops--READ ON!

Excellent .. JNCIS passed

This i believe is one of the best Juniper reference books i have come across. I have read and used within my job the complete reference by Matt Kolon and Jeff Doyle, aswell as other books. However this reference guide seems to cover the essential aspects of the more upto date Junos versions.
This is an excellent book that is well presented and easy to read, which has to be the killing point, i found the book written as if i where actually speaking to some of the people i know at Juniper through my company.
I passed my JNCIS by this book, I am recommending this book to all my friends who are scattered across various ISP's in the european region that have also implemented Juniper at the amsterdam internet exchange, london internet exchange etc across europe..

Great Book.

The Best Juniper Book out there, except for maybe the Cook Book. Only thing is that this book needs is an update (2002 print). There are new Routers, Router/Switches, Switches, Enterprise Routers and Edge Routers that the book does not cover because they were not out. Also the book is JUNOS 5.x Despite its dated nature still a great book.
