Worth every penny

Intranets are complicated. And most of the complexity is hidden from view. Organizational, technical, business process, and stakeholder (political) complexity makes Intranet design work hard hard hard. It's only when you try to redesign or re-architect an Intranet does the true nature of this complexity start to become apparent.
Slicing through the confusion of how to develop a winning Intranet strategy and execute it with precision is what Designing Intranets is all about. In James Robertson's characteristic clarity, his book breaks down the elements of creating sites that work into understandable and digestible pieces, and presents them in a logical, top-down fashion.
Take if from somebody who has the battle scars of leading the redesign of DreamWorks Animation's Intranet, this book is your new best friend because it gives you a safe place to begin thinking about what you need to do, and how you need to go about doing it.
I wish I'd had this book before I began working at DreamWorks Animation. Highly recommended.

A must-have reference for intranet practitioners

I'm an intranet strategy consultant myself. I have read James Robertson's book and find it one of the best, if not "the best" intranet guidebook available today.
Both strategic and pragmatic, James covers all the angles you need to understand in order to build an intranet that works.
What makes this book unique is that it is not "consultant-speak". It is from the real world, gives real world examples, and is inspiring at the same time.

Must-Have for Intranet Projects

I am a digital resources librarian at a suburban library system. We are in the midst of creating a new intranet; "Designing Intranets" was indispensable as we did the initial plan & design work. We continue to rely on it during implementation and launch activities.
By their very nature, intranets are extremely difficult to research. "Designing Intranets" includes many real-life screenshots of successful and not-so-successful intranet elements, as well as references to myriad resources for intranet builders. The book is logically organized, clearly written and very thorough. Anyone embarking on a intranet project will find "Designing Intranets" to be their go-to reference every step of the way.
