About the Author
Madhav Godbole holds an MA and PhD in Economics from Bombay University and an MA in Development Economics from Williams College, USA. His distinguished career has included assignments such as Secretary, Petroleum and Natural Gas; Secretary, Urban Development, Government of India; Principal Finance Secretary, Government of Maharashtra; and Chairman, Maharashtra State Electricity Board. He is the author of sixteen books in English and Marathi including Good Governance: Never on India s Radar (2014).

A refreshing look at Nehru

Godbole's book is refreshing...It is hard to find unbiased journalism in India.. It is important that deification of any one howsoever tall the leader may be doesn't take place. Unless a person's life is viewed from a different lenses, it would be hard to know the truth. The books so far on Nehru are just one-sided account of his greatness and compete with each other in eulogizing him. It is understandable from mercenary authors, given that Nerhu's future generations occupy the throne directly or indirectly. Godbole however provides a 360 degree view of Nehru. It is quite common in western countries to provide such an account of their leaders howsoever tall they may have been. It never happened in India earlier. One may or may not agree with Godbole, neither his views would diminish the stature of Nehru but the book does provide a refreshing reading experience when compared with those written by sycophants of the Family. A must read for any one who is tired of reading sycophantic accounts of Nehru.
